Hunter Happenings

Lets get caught up on some great things happening here at T.W. Hunter.

We kicked off our annual cookie dough fundraiser last week. We are trying to repeat as the highest selling middle school in the country, and we are off to a great start. The money raised from this fundraiser is so important to our school, because it allows us to make improvements to the building and in teachers' classrooms that otherwise we would not possible. Keep up the good work students.

The Buccaneer football team took care of business against  Knox Doss Middle School last week to push their record to 2-2 on the season. Come out tonight and support the Bucs tonight as they take on the Ellis Cougars at Hendersonville High.

Put your dancing shoes on. Our first school dance of the year will be Friday, September 21st from 6-8. Admission is $5, and concessions will be sold. Only T.W. Hunter students are allowed and dress code applies. Come have a good time and support our basketball teams.

Welcome Home

We welcomed home Jonathan Seals and Seth Marlin, members of the U.S. Little League Champion Goodlettsville All-Stars, in true Buccaneer style. Upon their arrival back to school their classmates lined the halls cheering and high fiving the young men on their way to class. Then last Thursday, joined by News Channel 2, 102.9 the Buzz, members of the Nashville Sounds Organization, and other local news papers, our own Hunter Herald held a news conference, so the champs could share their experiences with their classmates.

Let the Learning Begin

Welcome back! After a longer than expected summer, we are excited to get started here at TW Hunter. It is nice to see the hallways filled with students eager to learn. We have a lot of new faces in the building, so if you see someone you do not recognize take moment to introduce yourself and make them feel welcome. With the delayed start of school, activities will be getting under way quickly starting with our first football game on Tuesday, the 21st, at Station Camp. Make plans to come out and support our Buccanneers.

Bucs in Action

The T.W. Hunter Chorus, under the direction of Mrs Disney, recently held its spring performance.

The program included some classic and contemporary hits, along with some stirring dance numbers. Congratulations students and Mrs. Disney for a job well done.

Mrs. Tucker and her math team traveled to Clarksville last week to compete in the Austin Peay State University Middle School Mathematics Competition. The field was made up of several public and private schools from Tennessee and Kentucky.  Our students made us proud by capturing second place. The team is pictured below.

Ms. Walker's class also represented the school well at Station Camp High School last Friday. Below is a link from News 2 highlighting the day's events.

Hunter Happenings

After hours of training and watching Jeopardy,  Ms. Holdren took a group of students to compete at the GHS Academic Quiz Bowl this past week. The students represented us well by capturing third place and might have even placed higher were it not for the students repeatedly giving answers in the form of questions.

Also out and about were Mr. Hale and his T. W. Hunter Art Council. The students were able to tour the Frist Center. While there, the council members were able to experience several exhibits, including the Fairy Tales, Monsters, and the Genetic Imagination exhibit, and see the  area reserved for Mr Hale's future pieces. The students are pictured below in front of Sculpture Will Ryman's Rose on 65th Street.

Taking a Look Back

As we begin the last nine weeks of the school year, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on some of our students' accomplishments that occurred during the first half of this semester.

Both of our basketball teams wrapped up successful seasons. The girls team, led by all-county team selection Angeles Engel, finished third in their division with a record of 8-7 with many of those loses coming by less than a handfull of points. Jordan Mueller also received all-tournament honors. The boys, led by all-county team members Ryan Hatten and Kody Timmons, finished the year with an impressive 16-1 record which was good enough to put them at the top of their division. The boys then capped off their season by winning the county tournament. In the course of their tournament run, Eli Duncan, Sawyer Taylor, and Nash Young garnered all-tournament team selctions.

Our students also excelled artistically. Chris Janas on trombone, Braeden Johnson on percussion, Kody Okert on trombone, Richard Reiger on trumpet,  and Daniel Samoila on horn all were named members of the all-county band.  Olivia Crick was also honered as she was awarded Best in Show for the Middle School division at the Hendersonville Arts Council Sumner County Art Exhibit for her landscape painting seen below.

In other news worth noting  our own Darren Depena finished third in the Middle Tennessee State Spelling Bee. Darren won the school's spelling bee and finished second at the county level before representing us at state. Also T.W. Hunter was well represented at this year's Invention Convention at MTSU by a group of six graders (seen below). Many of whom brought home hardware.

Congratulation to all of our students, teachers, and coaches. All of your hardwork is paying off. Keep making us proud!
